Al Sailiya Central Market

This air conditioned indoor market is situated approximately 20km away from Doha and offers everything from household item to plants, garden supplies, fish, meat and lots of fruits and vegetables.

Joined by a friend, we wanted to explore what was available and feel the vibe of the local market. There are several buildings that are joined together each with a specific section; wholesale, retail and traditional.

Al Sailiya is one of three central markets serving the population in different parts of town, the two others are in the Al Wakrah and Um Salal region.

We started with the fruits and vegetables which are both local and imported, with over 102 shops in the retail section we were overwhelmed by the many vendors, which one to choose ? For us it was a combination of liking the fruits and vegetables displayed in front of us and the contact we had with the vendor. Not sure about the ripeness of a fruit ? They can make you sample taste before buying.

Next up we headed for the fish market where we were greeted by friendly staff. From shrimps to sardines, you will find a wide variety of fish and if you ask, they will clean and debone your chosen pieces.

The Widam food building offers fresh and imported meats and nearby you will find Al Meera where you can buy in bulk for better prices.

The traditional market also known as the Omani Souq offers a range of household items.

We walked away feeling like we had our money's worth and had a good time in the process.

Open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
